.linkwood - 1995 - wemyss malts - honeysuckle bower

Another Wemyss special release, the Honeysuckle Bower, although for my palate it might as well have been called Camomile Pot-pourri. Nevertheless, I can find the naming to be correct once again for this "rescued" Linkwood of which most disappears in the Diageo blended whiskies...

46% abv, €90, single malt, non-chill filtered, natural colour

Nose: sweet, vanilla, honey, marshmallows, floral, violets, honeysuckle, citrus fruits, lemon, limes, apples, a hint of camomile and star-anise and... is that dill in the background?
Palate: sweet, honey, treacle, floral, violets, camomile, citrus fruits, limes, lemon sherbet, apples, pears, stone fruits, peaches, spicy, white pepper
Finish: sweet, floral, camomile, honeysuckle, long
Mark: +++++

Conclusion: Okay, it might be suggested in the name on the label, but the honeysuckle is really there on the nose and finish, where many fruits are present on the palate. A nice and refreshing dram.

More info: distilled in 1995, matured for the full 19 years on a hogshead an filled in to 332 bottles in 2014.

Many thanks to Wemyss Malts for suplying us with this sample
